Don’t let pride block a blessing
The Prophet Muhammad once gave something to Umar bin Al-Khattab. Umar said, “Give it to someone poorer than me.” The Prophet replied:
“Take it. Use it, or give it in charity. If wealth comes to you without begging or pride, take it. But don’t chase after it with your desires.” (HR. Muslim 1045, Bukhari 7163)
Because of this, Umar never asked for anything again. And he never rejected anything given to him.
The Prophet Muhammad also said:
“Wealth is green and sweet. Whoever takes it with a good heart will be blessed. But whoever takes it with pride and greed — it won’t be blessed. It’s like someone who eats but never feels full.” (HR. Muslim 1035, Bukhari 2750)
